Best Ever Stir Fry

The best stir fry I have ever made. It was extremely simple to make, consisting of only a few ingredients. The broccoli turned out crisp, and the bison was tender. I think broccoli is my favourite vegetable – but only if cooked right! :)

The difference in this stir fry might have been the quality, and simplicity of the ingredients I used: frozen organic broccoli, organic bison from the Farmer’s Market, real soy sauce (no hydrogenated oil!) and a high-quality teriyaki sauce (no high fructose corn syrup!). What was surprising to me was that most of these ingredients were not much more expensive than the conventional counterpart! The soy sauce may have actually been cheaper (!) and the teriyaki sauce was only about $.30 more than the generic, teriyaki-like-but-really-high-fructose-corn-syrup version :)

Topped with my new obsession (Sriracha hot sauce!) this really was the best stir fry I have ever made.

Best Ever Beef and Bison Stir Fry

adapted from The Biggest Loser Family Cookbook by EatCleanLiveGreen.com

Ingredients

  • 1 lb round bison steak, sliced very thin (preferably organic)
  • 15 oz. frozen broccoli
  • 2 tsp. sesame oil
  • 1 tsp garlic
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 C teriyaki sauce
  • brown rice, cooked (optional)
  • Sriracha hot sauce (optional)
  • Soy Sauce (optional)

Directions

  1. Heat a large pan or wok over high heat. Spray with non-stick cooking spray, and add frozen broccoli and garlic. Cook for 3-5 minutes, until broccoli is crisp-tender.
  2. Transfer broccoli to a large bowl, and cover to keep warm.
  3. Heat 1 tsp of sesame oil, and cook half the bison (about 2 minutes per side). Be careful not to overcook!
  4. Add cooked bison to broccoli, and repeat step 3 for remaining bison.
  5. Once all bison is cooked, mix broccoli, bison, red pepper flakes and teriyaki sauce.
  6. Serve on top of brown rice, topped with Sriracha and Soy Sauce, if desired.

This looks really good! I’ve never cooked with bison before. Broccoli is probably one of my favorite veggies.
