Local and Not Local

Being excited to find local (Alberta) carrots at the Farmer’s Market…

And then being excited to find Chinese Mandarin Oranges. China = not local.

But they are both so good! I’ve been looking for mandarins for weeks, and all I could find was clementines, which are just not the same! ;-)

Both choices are healthy, and clean eating superstars.  One choice is much more ethical than the other, and that’s ok. With every purchase, you make a choice, weighing taste, price, nutrition, organic/conventional, local/not-local.

During my run yesterday, my ankle started to really hurt. I tried to push through, but then my knee started to hurt (probably because of the stress I was putting on my ankle, my gait was off). :(

I cut my run short, and hopped on the elliptical to finish my cardio workout. I’m taking it easy today, and hopefully my ankle is good as new tomorrow!

**********

  1. Are you a clementine or mandarin orange fan?
  2. If you experience pain during a workout, do you push through or back off?

For me, Pain + back off. I also think there is a difference between discomfort and pain. Discomfort = stay.

It depends where I’m at in my run. If I’m running 5 miles, and I feel a slight, dull pain during mile 5, I’ll finish it out. That’s probably not a good thing.

I had not had mandarin oranges before I visited my boyf in Canada. Now I LOVE them!

I am terrible with pain. I usually do not back off, but I know that is NOT the thing to do. I’d say back off, then try again later- if the pain is still there, get it checked out!

Gah – thats one thing I miss about Alberta – the mandarins!
Here in Nova Scotia all you can find is clementines. It’s sad :(

I’m definitely a clementines fan. I used to get them in my Christmas gift back when I was a kid, good association :)

Love clementines & canned mandarins, but I’ve never had fresh ones!
