I don’t think there is an easier pre-made dinner than a veggie burger. Heat – Serve.
Unfortunately, I just discovered that my favourite brand of veggie burger, Money’s Gardenburger, contains autolyzed yeast extract. What’s that? Autolyzed yeast extract is a source of MSG, widely used as a flavor enhancer in processed foods. MSG naturally occurs in many different foods like autolyzed yeast extract, hydrolyzed protein, sodium caseinate, calcium caseinate, textured protein, plant protein extract and yeast extract.
Like many other people, I get headaches from MSG, and prefer to avoid it.
And to be honest, a homemade veggie burger isn’t much more difficult to make than the packaged version. Combine ingredients – smash – form – heat serve.
I dropped one of those out of out (form) from my bean burger recipe, to create the easiest ever homemade veggie burger: the unburger!
Combine 1/3 C black beans (cooked, or from a can) with 1 T instant oats (or bread crumbs), 1/2 t red pepper flakes and a few shakes of Worcestershire sauce.
Smash it all together (at this point, if you really want the burger, you could shape into a patty). In a non-stick frying pan, heat 1 tsp canola oil on med-high. Cook bean mixture burger for about 3 minutes.
Serve on a tortilla or bun, with spinach, bell pepper, cheese and mustard. (Or any toppings you like!
)
Eat Clean – Easiest Ever UnBurgers

Thank you for bringing that MSG ingredient to light. I get headaches too, and I have to look for that stuff too.

Hey, I found your blog from Holly’s. It’s nice to see another Calgarian blogger in the midst. Although, I’m really only a wannabe blogger right now since I can’t seem to post with any kind of regularity.
I hate all those hidden names for MSG. I also try to avoid it as much as possible.

Looks great! I got a few cans of beans at the supermarket a few weeks ago — now I’m going to have to try this!
Also, thanks for inspiring me to do Couch to 5K again — I can run a 5K, but I’m going to work on my speed this time
