Are you a volume eater?
I definitely am! One of my favourite snack combinations is pumpkin oatmeal. It’s a huge volume of food, for a pretty small amount of calories. Which leaves lots of room for toppings
To make the amount of volume this snack contains even more apparent, to myself, my stomach and the blog, I decided to serve it in a measuring cup! I mixed together:
- 2/3 cup plain, non-fat yogurt
- 1/3 cup canned pumpkin
- 1 tbsp Stevia baking blend (could also use sugar)
- dash vanilla extract
- dash cinnamon
Topped with 1/2 tbsp heaven in a jar (Nutella!) and 1/3 cup Nature’s Path Crunch Maple Sunrise cereal. (I love Nature’s Path products – the ingredients are all organic, real foods, and the ingredient lists are relatively short. Plus, they package their products environmentally friendly. I was really excited when they offered to send me a few new products to try – a review is coming soon!)
Pumpkin Yogurt is such a filling snack! I like it even better if I mix it up a few hours ahead of time, giving the pumpkin, yogurt, cinnamon and vanilla time to meld together into one, resulting in a taste reminiscent of pumpkin pie. (Note: I did not say it was just like pumpkin pie – it’s still yogurt!
)

Are you a volume eater? I definitely am! It’s one of the reasons I love oatmeal so much
Do you serve anything in odd dishes for portion control? I always eat ice cream out of coffee mugs – it’s way more fun than a bowl, and I know it’s about 1/2 cup!

I’m definitely a volume eater! And I run into trouble with light, empty calories…. because I just can’t get enough!

At first I thought you had Kix on top of your yogurt
I have not tried the NP Maple Sunrise yet… will have to soon though! I purposely use smaller bowls when I have cereal because I know I am more likely to have the recommended serving size that way rather than 2-3X that.

I am definitely a volume eater, and you’re right that pumpkin does the job!!! I try to make a lot of my meals with veggies as the base instead of the side dish, because they’re great for getting more volume for fewer calories.
