Beyond PB&J: 5 Ways to Eat Nut Butters

by Allison on March 6, 2010

Nut butters are a delightful food. They combine healthy fats and a little protein, to make something incredibly filling and tasty. And while I love a classic PB&J, there are so many more nut butters, and ways to eat them!

Thanks to Artisana for the samples – I enjoyed trying them! I did find that the pecan butter had a bit of a bitter aftertaste, and the Cacao bliss had a rather insane amount of calories (200 for 1 tbsp!). However, I loved  the walnut butter, and bought a full sized jar today. It has definitely become my favourite nut butter! I also enjoyed the almond butter – it was very smooth, and the coconut butter – it smells like coconut icing!

I’m also in love with all the little empty jars I have now – at 1 tbsp volume, they’re perfect for packing nut butters or salad dressings for lunches!:D

What is your favourite nut butter, and how do you eat it?

I love raw crunchy unsalted Almond butter. I made a bit of honeyed pecan butter and it was fabulous.

So far I’ve tried pb, almond butter, pistachio butter, and cashew butter. My favorite without a doubt is almond butter with nothing else added to it (ie no salt or sweetener like some brands use). I typically eat it with apple slices or in oatmeal. My morning oatmeal has awesome staying power when it has both the almond butter and lots of fruit.

I’d love to try the Artisana butters, but they’re quite the investment when you don’t know if you’ll like’em or not!

I love almond butter with carrot sticks…

I really am enjoying coconut butter because I can do a lot of gluten free baking with it. It is very universal and has such a unique taste. Thanks for the review!

With a mug of warm milk spiced with cardamon, cinnamon, and ginger. Slowly savor the nut butter whilst sipping the warm milk. Perfect for a late night treat!
